Hard to Read invites you to a special evening, Hosted by Fiona Duncan, with poet Shauna Barbosa (Cape Verdean Blues), writer, musician and artist Elaine Kahn (Women in Public), and writer and librettist Sarah LaBrie.

Shauna Barbosa is the author of the poetry collection Cape Verdean Blues (University of Pittsburgh Press, 2018). Her poems have appeared or are forthcoming in The Southeast Review, Virginia Quarterly Review, Tupelo Quarterly, Boulevard, Poetry Society of America, PBS Newshour, Lit Hub, Lenny Letter, and others. She is a 2018 Disquiet International Luso-American fellow. Shauna received her MFA from Bennington College in Vermont and currently resides in Los Angeles, California.

Elaine Kahn is a writer, musician and artist currently based in Los Angeles. She is the author of Women in Public (City Lights, 2015) as well as several chapbooks including I Told You I Was Sick: A Romance (After Hours, Ltd., 2017), A Voluptuous Dream During An Eclipse (Poor Claudia, 2012) and Customer (Ecstatic Peace Library, 2010). Writing has been published in Art Papers, Open Space, Brooklyn Rail, West Branch, The Poetry Foundation, Jubilat, San Francisco Arts Quarterly and elsewhere. She holds an MFA from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop and a BFA from California College of the Arts. She is an instructor of creative writing at the Poetry Field School.

Sarah LaBrie is a writer based in Los Angeles. She has received fellowships from the Corporation of Yaddo and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. She grew up in Houston, Texas. She has an MFA from NYU, where she was a Writers in the Schools Fellow, and a BA from Brown.
